On behalf of the Korean Nuclear Society and the Chinese Nuclear Society, it is our great pleasure to invite you to the 12th Korea–China Workshop on Nuclear Reactor Thermal-Hydraulics (WORTH-12), to be held from April 4 to 7, 2027, at the Hilton Gyeongju in Gyeongju, Korea.
Since its first meeting in 2006 under the Korea–China Joint Committee on Nuclear Energy, the WORTH series has become the principal forum in which the thermal-hydraulics communities of our two countries meet, share results, and build trust. Held alternately in Korea and China, it brings together researchers, designers, regulators, and students from universities, national laboratories, and industry. Following the success of WORTH-11 in Harbin in 2025, we are delighted to bring the workshop back to Korea.
The theme of WORTH-12 is “AI-Enabled Thermal-Hydraulics for Advanced Nuclear Systems.” Artificial intelligence and data-driven methods are reshaping how we model two-phase flow and heat transfer, how we validate system codes, and how we monitor plants in real time — while small modular reactors and other advanced systems raise questions our conventional tools were never built to answer. WORTH-12 is a place to examine both sides of this change honestly: what these methods genuinely deliver, where their limits lie, and how they can be qualified for safety-related use. The program will cover advanced reactor experiments and analysis, severe accident phenomena, CFD and multi-scale simulation, code development and validation, machine learning and digital twins, and the digitalization of reactor operation and safety assessment.
Gyeongju was for a thousand years the capital of the Silla Kingdom, and its temples, royal tombs, and stone monuments are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is also a center of Korea’s nuclear industry. In early April the cherry trees along Bomun Lake are in full bloom — a fitting setting for the conversations, both formal and informal, that make this workshop what it is.
